Lash Check

A term you’ve probably seen or heard lately. But what does it actually mean?! Let me explain it to you in this blog! Lash Checking is, as the word suggests, the process of checking the lashes.

Do you think to yourself… “Isn’t that nothing new? I’ve been doing that since I took a course!” Well, that’s not exactly what we mean. You see, we can only check the external condition of the lashes up to a certain point. We can assess whether the lashes are porous or strong, or if they’re thin or thick.

Here, we can make an estimate of the processing times needed, but since we can’t see inside the hair, it’s difficult to gauge the actual condition and shape of the hair shaft. The entire lifting process occurs in the interior, in the cortex. While it’s important to do a thorough analysis based on what we can see externally to guide our processing times, we also need to check during the lotion application if the lashes are ‘ready.’

This check is what we call the Lash Check. By performing this check, we can see if Lotion 1 has already done its job! This helps prevent over-processing and burning the lashes, as well as avoiding an underwhelming lift—one where there’s ‘nothing’ to show because the lashes simply weren’t ‘ready’ yet. No more GUESSING on processing times, but KNOWING for sure if you’re on track.

A stiff lash that isn’t fully ‘ready’ will be harder to bend and will show a ‘U’ curl at the point where you try to bend it. On the other hand, a flexible lash that is ‘ready’ will easily bend and almost lie flat where you try to bend it.

If the lash is flexible, Lotion 1 has been applied long enough, and you can remove it. The processing times for Step 2 will then be adjusted based on the actual processing times of Step 1. But again, you can check if the lash is ready. For Step 2, we call this the Set Check. You perform the Set Check just like with Lotion 1, approximately half a minute before the actual processing time is up. Again, you release a lash from the tip, but this time, instead of bending it, you press it down without bending and then let it go. If the lash snaps back into the position it was glued to on the shield, it’s ready! You can then remove the lotion! Lotion 2 won’t cause over-processing or burn the lashes, but it can dry them out. Leaving the lotion on longer than necessary is unnecessary!

Lash & Set Check allow you to stop ‘hoping’ and ‘guessing’ on the right processing times, ensuring that every client leaves with a beautiful, long-lasting, and healthy Lash Lift. Time to check it!
